How to change primary schools in Scotland ?

My girl has just gone into P3. We live in a little town and there's 3 primary schools but 1 of those is more for special needs. I'm a pretty relaxed parent but in P1 and P2 my girl learned hardly anything. Especially from her P2 teacher. She's just told me that same teacher will be teaching literacy and maths. With that teacher she was given 1 piece of maths homework throughout the whole of P2. I'm not happy she's getting the same teacher.
The school generally is very defensive and stubborn and don't work with parents. How do I go about changing schools - we are in the catchment for the other school. Do I have any other options? She's so behind and it's really this teacher's fault.
Thanks.

You need to make a Placing Request to your local authority. I'm sure if you Google it you will find the process and the forms you require.

Look on your council website. It will have info there.

I wouldn't use homework as an indicator especially at that age. But it's a Council led thing. I'm sure the details will on their website. They might suggest contacting the other school directly.

It's not that unusual and should not be difficult at all as long as other school is not oversubscribed. You need to fill in a transfer form from your council. You could also phone the school office of the new school to register interest.

Without being mean in any way, it's unlikely to be all the teacher's fault if your child is struggling with learning. Be prepared for that. But you are right to move her if you feel the teaching is poor. Any decent primary school would immediately invite parents in and investigate if a parent was unhappy with reasonable grounds.
