GCSE language resit

DS needs to resit his English language because he only got a 3.
Originally he was meant to be going to college to do a full time accountancy course. However the college let us know that they are no longer running the course at college so he needs to do an apprenticeship. Problem is the only way he can resit is if he gets the job and onto the course. If he has to take a year out how can he resit the exam?

Are there no other related courses? Perhaps a level 2.

I don't know, the deadline for the applications are tomorrow. So he'll hopefully get an interview soon. Will have a look for alternatives.

Ha I can tell you the answer to that.

If he isn't on a full time course / apprenticeship you can't get funding to teach just resit GCSEs / do Functional skills equivalents if aged 16-19. You have to be on a 'full time' course. Even if you have an EHCP it appears to be nigh on impossible. You could do it independently and find a local college to act as exam centre.

His best bet, as mentioned above is to enroll onto a Level 2 course for a year and resit then.

Thanks, will have to wait and see the result of his application. I'm so passed off because I was the one that suggested he did the college course rather than an apprenticeship in the first place because of his bad mental health. Think I'm just going to keep quiet and let him make his own decisions.

I think with poor MH you are right to think a college course might b better as if days off are needed college may be more forgiving. OTOH maybe college will be more stressful. (DD has poor MH, has done 2 years at college but couldn't do 'full time' and maths and English.)
