What is Nottingham Trent Uni like?

My DD is in 2 minds about going to Uni this year. She currently has a place to study at Nottingham Trent to move there next weekend. It wasn’t her original choice so has had to change her application for student loans and this could take up to 7 more weeks which is also an issue. We didn’t visit this Uni and she’s not sure about it being known as a “party place”, which isn’t really her scene. She’s wondering whether to take a gap year and apply elsewhere for next year instead. She’s getting anxious about it and I’m really not sure how to best advise her. I went to a Uni I didn’t particularly like for different reasons but made myself go. Not sure there’s any point in her going if she really doesn’t like the sound of it. I’d rather she doesn’t go than drops out after a month or something.

Does anyone have any experience of Nottingham Trent? If so, some insight into what type of fellow students she can expect, as she thinks it attracts people who want to party? The reason she chose it was that it was the only option available through clearing.

I guess it depends what she wants to study. Dd went and loved it. She went out once a week like most I imagine. As a uni town I think it's Thursday night which was cheap drinks etc

As you will see from my own thread I’m clueless about Uni’s still but Nottingham appeals to my own DD because it looks like a fun place to study (unlike Northampton it seems!). If your DD is unsure I’d definitely check it out properly if you still have the chance this week and then defer / reject the offer if she’s not keen.

Depends what course she's intending to study. DD went to NTU, godson went to Nott uni. Both still living there post Uni (stayed for masters) and love the city.

Mottingham is a city with a night life scene like any other big city. But there's lots of other things going on too. If she doesn't like to party then she might want to think about living alone because halls are likely going to be full of people who want to go out drinking a lot and it could disrupt her sleep etc.

I know of two students that went to NTU, both enjoyed it very much.
Neither are party animals, one is very party averse.

She will find her own group, and halls are not always a massive party scene.

my daughter is going to NTU - she's more the sort to have drinks in a pub early evening than clubbing and not really into all the freshers week crap

we did open day and she preferred it to the other places we visited. Campus was much nicer, clean, safe and also the tutors we spoke with were more 'human' and her type of teacher

really depends on the course - her campus is out of the city and more rural but there was a lovely vibe. If your daughter prefers quiet it might be a better campus to stay at than one of the city centre ones

Which subject will she be studying?
