Dtr's 1st choice is A level English Language but is looking to change schools. New school only offer A level English Language & Literature.
Does anyone know if this is 50/50 between lang & lit as she doesn't really want to do lots of lit. Struggling to find the pros and cons of both to help her decide. Can anyone offer any advice/info. Thanks.

As an English teacher I would say that A Level English language is DRY. The Lit will liven it up a bit, in my opinion. But then your DC may like the stuff about English language that I like less, I suppose. What were their GCSE grades in both?

I wanted to do an English lang/linguistics degree, settled for lit&Lang and then transferred to Lang after 1st year. Obviously different as it was a degree, but I didn't enjoy lit at all and there wasn't enough lang for my liking. I actually did A level lang by correspondence course, could that be an option?

They are very different subjects. There again many students choose English language thinking it's going to be like that part of the GCSE or they think that it is creative writing which it isn't. It is more scientific - child language acquisition, linguistics etc. Has she looked at the specification and is she clear about the content? All the specs are freely available on the exam board websites so check on the school websites for the name of the exam board and then download the specs and look. The LangLit will have a substantial Lit content and is quite different from Lang.

Is she hoping to go to University after her A Levels?

If so, to do which subject?

Which other A Levels is she planning to take?
