Maintenance Loans for 2 or more DC at uni at same time

Advice needed - from Sept we will have 2 DC at uni and in 2024 3 DC at uni (two of my DCs and one SDC). My ex-DH insisted on completing the student finance forms with his household income so DC got lowest loan amount. Looking online it looks like the household contribution is split equally between students - does this mean that if my household income is 110k then they work out the maintenance loan for each DC based on an equal percentage of this - i.e. 55k this year. It makes a huge difference to the amount they would each receive in this case but I can't find out the info clearly anywhere. Has anyone else had more than one DC at uni at same time and can advise?? Thank you!

No that's not how it's done. The number of DCs at uni has no impact on the loan granted.

Sadly it works the other way round.
The 110k is declared for each student and the fact there are 2 or 3 isn't taken into account so all will receive the same loan.
Do the DCs live with their father, your ex? The resident household's income is the one that should be declared.

You can't just pick and choose what info you give them, there are instructions to follow. And with those incomes, your dc will only get the minimum anyway.

My DCs live 50:50 with me and their dad - SDC is 100% with me. I was this statement on student finance that had me confused!
"Different rules apply if you have a brother, sister or parent who is also getting student finance. We’ll work out your household contribution before it’s shared between you and the other students in your family. In normal circumstances, it’ll be shared out equally. However, in certain circumstances it may be shared differently to make sure that the amount of contribution reflects whose income has been included in the income assessment."

Not picking and choosing - just confused due to this statement on student finance website:

All info has been filled out correctly, just struggling to finance 2 at uni and worrying about how to finance the 3rd!

@5adayincludeswine would be interesting to know if your parental contribution was split when your children were at University.

There seems to be two things, the first is the £1130 disregard per dependent child. This doesn't have a big effect, it just reduces your income used to calculate the maintenance loan (interestingly pension contributions also reduce your income for these purposes).

The second is the split parental contribution rule where the calculated parental contribution is split between students and so they should each get a bigger loan. This is clearly stated in paragraph 10 of The Education (Student Support) Regulations 2011 and is reference in the OP's quote from the student finance page.

The Education (Student Support) Regulations 2011

These Regulations provide for support for students taking designated higher education courses in respect of an academic year beginning on or after 1st September 2012.
