Bucks Grammar Schools

Hi,

I have seen some posts where parents move closer to grammar catchments closer to 11+ admissions process. I want to understand how does regular schooling work out in these cases? For e.g., do you move into a primary school in the same catchment? If that's the case, won't schools be over subscribed by the time you decide to move there?

I am based out of Milton Keynes and have a kid in Year 1. Hence want to understand how soon we should move into a grammar catchment area?

Thank you

Check in the admissions info if there is a need to be resident in Bucks for a particular length of time. It may be enough just to have moved before secondary admissions (end of October).

However whenever you move you are going to need to find a space in a primary school (unless prepared to transport your DC back to their current school). This potentially means taking a spot where there is one.

You also need to consider what happens if your DC doesn't pass the 11+. So you might want to move close to a good Upper school option.

At Year 1, you might want to wait until closer to Year 6 before uprooting the family (unless you have some other reason to move as well).

If you want to live in Bucks, move now & choose somewhere with good Upper Schools as well. There is no guarantee that any given child will pass the 11 plus. You have about 2-3 weeks to move between the results & the CAF deadline (unless it is one of the schools where you need to be there a few months before the deadline). This means relinquishing all ties to your previous house & proving that it is a permanent move (eg electricity bills showing appropriate use, other proof of residence). If a child stays at their original primary school I'm sure the council might scrutinise the application a little more closely.
