11+ preparation

We are entering the last circa 7 weeks before the 11+ exam in September.
What kind of a score are they aiming for to 'pass' 11+? 80-85%?
What can we do in the last 7 weeks to augment our child's score please.
Can anyone share what they did?
Thankyou

There is no one answer to this. It depends on the school. Some are more selective and harder to get into than others. My only advice would be make sure there is plenty of downtime built into your schedule as there is no point in being exhausted by all the prep as your child goes into the exams. Better to be well rested IMO.

Wishing your child the very best of luck.

We have done CGP Online and have just moved to Bond Online. Bond is much harder, not necessarily the actual work but the way things are phrased. For example a maths question on CGP will be quite straight forward, i.e. "what's the missing angle", whereas Bond creates a convoluted scenario where you have to first work out that you even have to find the angle, and then you need to work it out. My DS is getting tangled up in the words and getting very few right. I hope the real test isn't this complicated, so little time left!

It's not a percentage but a score that dictates a pass or non-pass. Also the area you are in and how selective the schools are.

This year for us a pass was over 488 to be.

Also what is the examining board (GL usually but you need to check as ours was changed last minute just before the exam last year!). Also it may or may not contact Verbal and/or non verbal reasoning.

A lot of the prep is going to be on how to do the test as it's not like a text they have done before. It's usually filled out on a separate piece of paper, and working out is not taken into consideration. You may need to get some example exam papers to practice on.

It is also all about speed and if they do not know a answer to move on to the next, with the plan to come back to unanswered if any time at the end.

Hope that is of some help.

Agree on you need to put more efforts and time on practice speed and exam technique in the last few weeks.

We were advised to make sure our DC had their break. Some work yes but none in the last couple of weeks. We did some CGP 10 minute tests and a few full practice papers, I think one a week going through any answers that were wrong together. The pass score here only seems to change by a few marks so aiming for 80% would be about right where we are though it's likely different in other areas. The eleven plus forum may have more information specific to your area.
