Enrolling into two separate sixth forms…

Facing a bit of a nightmare… DC’s perfect school (foundation school) is oversubscribed… oversubscription criteria is based on ranking all students by grade. And that won’t be done by them until 29th August.

By which time the second choice school (vol. controlled) which is also oversubscribed will be full, with enrolment closed.

And term begins for both schools on 1 sept.

🤷‍♀️ crazy.

We will definitely get a place in second school (their criteria is based on distance). First school is however much better suited to DC’s SEN needs (formal dx of ASD/ADHD, but no EHCP).

Does anyone know if you can enrol in one school and not get immediately removed from the application lists of other schools? Has anyone been in the dame boat and found a sensible route through? Have emailed the schools but not holding out much hope for an answer…

Kent County Council, if that’s relevant.

You can apply to as many 6th forms as you like. My Dd applied to 3.

The OP has asked about enrolling not applying.

I see no reason why you can't enroll in more than 1 here in Hants at least.

Yes, is the enrolment that’s the issue, not the offers - DC has accepted 4 offers, all with varying grade requirements/levels of oversubscription.

seems crazy that the authorities can’t use a system like UCAS to allocate places - we’ve had to process all applications through their portal.. and rank the offers, yet the authority does nothing with this information… 🤷‍♀️

Same here. DS is going to have to enrol in two in August. (We're in Hants)
His preferred choice don't see him until the 31st August and wouldn't let him swap his A-level choices (he hates two of them now and needs to change). So he has to enrol in one that probably has spaces on the 29th first and cross his fingers he can swap options on the 31st.
It's a nightmare tbh. It'll also cost me a fortune in travel if he can't go to his preferred choice.

@megletthesecond The travel is eye-watering to college isn't it unless on your doorstep. I'm in Romsey so pretty equidistant from a load of colleges but none in our small market town.

I would enrol with the sixth form at school 2 and then withdraw if offered a place at your first choice.
I don't think that you have a choice given the circumstances and that does ensure you have a place.
Sixth form applications are not centrally managed, so they don't know if you have accepted another place.
I think that you can't be the only ones to be in this situation.
