The Latymer School or one of the UWC colleges

Hello,
We are debating whether to apply to the Latymer school in Edmonton or go the route of UWC colleges. Has anyone compared the two options. Our DD got into the Latymer school but due to DH's employment, we were unable to take it up and ended up going to the EU. Now as DD is going to start year 8 in Sep, we are trying to plan ahead and see if it makes sense to try for the Latymer again or if the UWC schools offer a better option.
Thanks in advance for your opinions and guidance!

Worth asking typical how many places for in year admissions so to weight in the chance.

Yes you need to speak to them and find out if the year 8 places for sept have already been allocated or if you are looking for year 9 in 2024 when should you apply and generally how many places are available?

Would be great to get some advise on the original question. Thank you!

Thanks, do you have any information on the original question re the comparison of the two schooling options?

We are not too bothered about that part, but are more interested in the comparison of the two schooling paths. Thanks

But if there is no space at Latymer there is no point considering it!

Not sure why you not bother, any decision making need to weight in chances. if Latymer in year is not realistic or chance are slim, then is there any meaning to compare?

It is like -" to get money to support living is it worth buy a lottery ticket or get a job and work" can I compare these two options?

They are distinctly different schools, I guess not many parents will consider these two options together, grammar vs private boarding, one in Metropolitan London another in remote Wales. It really depends on your education needs for your DC.

That's not just comparing apples and oranges, it's apples and kumquats!

They are so fundamentally different it's not possible to compare meaningfully.

You must have an idea whether you prefer free vs paying, state vs boarding, IB vs GCSE?

And yes, Latymer allows for in year admissions, but they remain significantly oversubscribed in year 8.

We are really concerned with the overall experience of a child in these two types of school and the possible options for universities when they come out of it.

Agreed, hence the question. The decision is for when they are around age 15, not just yet. Looking at the above two parameters, would love to hear from parents who have chosen one over the other or have sent their child to one of these schools.

15 would be a disastrous age to move a child in the UK system. In the GCSE system, that would be Year 10 or 11 - she would really need to be in place in Year 9, latest, to ensure she could select her options properly and do the full course; and Latymer actually start the GCSE curriculum in Year 9. The alternative in the UK system would be to move after GCSEs, into Year 11 (post 16), to do A levels.

The IBDP at UWC runs from 16-19, so if moving at 15 is the preferred option -the UWC in Wales only start at 15 - that might be better but of course it begs the question what system is she in now?

Thanks! That's very helpful.
