Is it true that if dd fails 11+ schools with a 13+ won't hold it against her to try again?!

Trying to work out if to do 11+ or 13+. For independent schools.

Would prefer a 13+ space but I keep getting told it's much harder to get in at 13+ better to try at 11+ fail and try again at 13+ in a worst case scenario
Thanks

13+ isn't really a thing for girls in most places - which schools are you thinking of?

Cheltenham, Wycombe abbey, Downe House? Does it make a difference per school?

I don't know those ones, but certainly in London, numbers of places at 13 has plummeted. Schools use 13 to mop up - if they took too many at 11 they'll offer less places at 13. Your prep should know exactly how they feel about those who try both.

Personally I'd do the 11+. It's often a multiple choice test so you have a chance of guessing even if you're not sure. 13+ is generally a lot harder and often involves writing essays etc. however it really depends on the school and you need to look at past papers to see what you are up against. Grammar school and private schools do it slightly differently. At grammar you are definitely better off doing the 11+ as places are extremely limited at 13+.

Thanks @catsnore I'm finding it all rather stressful. Boys schools are easier ime!
