School withholding internal exam results - can I get them?

Dc recently sat mock 11+ papers at school. The school said they only sit the papers for their own records

I asked for their results because I'm not sure if to put dc in for the 11+ or not and think these results would be a good indicator. Is there any way I can push for the results to see? It doesn't make sense to me that the school wont give me my own dc results.

You could suggest you make a dsar which might make them rethink, if not go ahead with it to access all data held about your child

Is it a state school or a private school?

State schools are not allowed to prepare kids for 11+ apart from (I think) one practice paper. There are quite strict rules. So I am wondering if that is why they are not sharing.

They will alos run into problems with parents on both sides getting angry about their childs results (good reuslts but then they don't pass 11+ or poor results and parents upset etc)

The simplest thing would be to say excatly what you have just said here - you just want to know if it is wise to put them in for the exam.

Given that they are doing mock papers, I am guessing that you dc is in year 5. That means you have either done most of the prep or not, registering for an dsitting the exam at this point is not such a big deal. Just go for it if he is up for it.

The reason I want THESE results is because they were under exam conditions in a hall. These results would be very useful in determining if to try or not. Also I'm now a bit bewildered as to why a parents wouldn't be 'allowed' access to their own dc results.

@LIZS thank you what is a dsar? It's a private school as that seems to make a difference.

Data Subject Access Request.

It would be time consuming for someone in the office to do (basically copy and download any records or messages held about your child within a timeframe) so it may mean they just decide to tell you the results instead

Thanks you @LIZS this is very helpful.

Our children do a " practice test" set by the local grammar schools. But they are only used if there is an issue with the real test or an appeal etc. The school don't mark them ( we aren't given a mark scheme!) they simply hang onto them until/if asked by the grammar school to hand them over!

Are they not supporting you generally as a private school in terms of what’s schools are suitable etc for him to prepare for? Can you not use that information rather than a mark? Will it even have any context for you outside of their interpretation?

On the DSAR, they are only allowed to keep data with your permission (until your child is 18) and for specific purposes, so did you give permission for them to administer the test and withhold the results?

If you want to really wind them up ask for a full disclosure, I did this at uni and got loads of information. You can even ask for any CCTV of your child.
