Puzzles for 4+ admission assessment

Hi! I've heard that puzzles are common when assessing for 4+ admission. If you child has experience with this, may I ask how many pieces were they given? I googled and found very different data points, anywhere between 20 and 100. Thanks a lot in advance!

It would help if you listed the schools however 4+ assessments are done without parents and so no one can reliably tell you.

I doubt seriously any school would require 3/4 year olds to do 100 piece puzzles: it's not impossible (I know kids that age capable of this) but its beyond what even academically selective schools are looking for.

It doesn't really matter anyhow. Just do puzzles that your child can do and move on when they have mastered a certain difficulty level. You can't force them to go beyond what they are capable of cognitively so just approach it from that perspective.

I think it is more of to see their reaction. For example a lot of the 11+ interviews there were no right or wrong answers, but they just wanted to see thought process. Of course there was the odd mental math problem. But there were also things like shaping clay, sorting photos and giving reasons as to why you did it in that way. For 4+ I assume they want to see does your dc freeze, give up too easily, make an effort to try. Would they be teachable etc. They are looking for personality and ability to learn (at least this is what I think, as we never did 4+). Perhaps someone will come along and give more insight.
