Milton Abbey school

Hi. Does anyone have recent experience of Milton Abbey school? Our son was diagnosed with ADHD last year, now successfully medicated and doing GCSEs next year. We think a change of school will be needed for sixth form as the current one doesn't understand ADHD and he still needs support with how to manage himself, his time and his workload. He is super bright. Would Milton Abbey work for him? Is it a good school for bright kids with ADHD? All feedback gratefully received. Thanks!

Hi - We’re in a similar boat with our son who has recently been diagnosed with ADHD- and are considering Milton Abbey - would love some feedback.

Hi, as someone with autism and an ex student of MA, all I can say is be prepared for your child to be bullied because of it. I have had people say to me "you're so autistic" and even a rumor spread about me saying "he's so autistic I bet he cannot even remember when his own exams are."

Could you give me a rough idea when this was please?

The exam rumor happened in around May/June 2018. Being made fun of because I'm autistic happened from 2016 - 2018.

Thanks for this information. I hope you've been able to find a nicer group of friends since.

My son is at Milton Abbey at the moment, although he does not have ADHD there are children there that do and it is definitely a school that properly supports children with diverse educational needs.
DJuser sorry to hear you had a bad time there, but the school is under completely new management compared to 2018. The school has changed, definitely for the better, in my opinion.
It has a large intake for 6th form, due to the large range of courses available, best bet would be to talk to them to see if it would be right for your son. It has suited mine, when I couldn't find any alternatives that would support my sons needs.

Our experience of MA was extremely disappointing and we do not believe that they live up to their promises. Our eldest went there and there are no circumstances I would send out youngest son. We sent him there because he has some issues that we understood MA was well placed to assist with, however they didn't seem to pay more than cursory attention to him - the only times he ever passed anything was when I sat down to work with him. He was a border, he was clearly left to his own devices when preparing for his exams and as a result did very badly. They would occasionally contact us to say he wasn't bothering to get up and go to class but didn't seem to bother telling him to get up. On balance, he came out with very little and I cannot see that he has received any benefit from going there whatsoever, despite the expense.

Oh dear, was this recently?

Hi,

He finished a year ago and I helped him with a retake after he left - his comment to me was "Daddy, I didn't have any idea at all what I was supposed to do the last couple of times I took this one". Sadly, he didn't pass, but he did score twice as much with two weeks of help from me than he did with two years of "support" from MA.

Thank you. I understand there is a new head. I wonder if he is making a difference.
