Workbooks to support Year 2

DomPom47 · 01/06/2023 12:15

My child is in Year 2 and I want to get her some workbooks that she can work from at home.
There’s just so much choice online that I don’t know what to go with.
Have you guys used any workbooks with your little people that you would recommend on reading/comprehension and mathematics.

I would skip the workbooks and work on those things in other ways if you feel they need extra input. So lots of games and every day life activities involving maths(depending on what particular area you want to work on?) and read together daily and talk together about what you are reading to help with reading comprehension.

Thank you for your response.
I try to get her to apply numbers and problem solving when we are at the shops, baking, counting stops on train and also we do reading every day - her with her school book and me with a few pages from a bedtime book and check reading and understanding but I feel it’s not enough.
Very recently Ofsted visited and the report was not at all positive about progress or challenge of kids and I feel guilty as it’s the school that I picked ;(

Bond & progress with Oxford have been a hit here.

Thank you for the recommendation. Unfortunately not something we can afford but definitely agree with their little and often philosophy and will try this with the Bond books.

My Year 1 son loves the CGP workbooks, especially the maths ones. He's happy to sit and do them while I get my youngest to bed.

They're on Amazon and not v expensive

I have a subscription to Carol Vordermans Maths Factor for my 2 children (year 1 and year 3). The aim is to do a small amount each day. The videos are really good for explaining concepts and follows the maths methods they are learning at school. They have a free trial at the moment if you want to try it.

I’ve not tried them but I think Carol Vorderman has various maths workbooks if you prefer paper and pencil.

DD always enjoyed doing the ones you can get in The Works'. What was best for her though was building the concepts into every day life, so we did things like giving her a load of coins, setting up a snack station on the dining room station and pricing everything, so she had to use her coins to 'buy' snacks when she wanted them. She learnt about money values, adding, subtracting and thought it was good fun.

This subscription is more within budget.
Have ordered the Bond books and once they are done will see how we go and maybe try this subscription.
