Reigate Grammar Drop Off/Pick

We’re strongly thinking of RGS as first choice for Senior School in two years time. We live a mile from the nearest school coach point and even then there is nowhere for us to park (I think that is a must if it is raining). So we are wondering about driving DS there, at least for the first year or so.

But we have been told that Reigate is a motoring nightmare in the rush hour. Can anyone tell us how the car drop-off/pick-up system works?

Thanks in advance 😀

I don't know but all high schools where I live do not allow parent's cars on to site at the start and end of the day. This is made clear on the 'transport' page of the website so could you see if there is a similar section on this school's website?

Alternatively, try reposting in 'secondary education'.

I don't really understand why he can't walk to the bus stop. A mile seems like a reasonable walk if the coach then takes him all the way to school, I imagine that's what everyone else will do. At DD's school the coaches can go onto site and drop them at the main entrance. Pupils who are driven to school have to be dropped off in a council run car park about 8 minutes walk away.

I definitely wouldn't attempt to drive it's hell on earth in the rush hour. 1 mile - nice bit of daily exercise and absolutely reasonable for a child of this age to do alone (unless you need to cross the A217!)

Most DC use public transport , school buses and their own steam to get to school. In particular in year 7 , travelling together is good for socialising and, of course, for developing independence. I would do what you can to make this work for your DC as otherwise they will potentially be missing out. I agree that a mile doesn't sound very far to walk, particularly after school. How about dropping at coach stop in the morning and letting them walk home in the evening. They will withstand the rain.
