Bursary interview- what does it involve?

Hello,

We applied for a bursary for a local independent school and had to send a lengthy financial form off and add copies of bank statements etc.

We now have an interview with them on Tuesday- what can we expect?! It's making me nervous!!

Thank you! Xx

It's a scholarship in the sense of a guaranteed place for the years left in school and 💯 off the fees plus uniform, etc. but also means tested, I know this is paradoxical but that's how it's set up.

Just wondering what the interview with the IFAs would entail. I was told it will include questions on our lifestyle, the plans we have for DC, etc. We know we definitely qualify financially as the picture is quite dire despite many efforts to increase income with promotions, etc. There are no assets we could liquidate either.

I know these things are stressful but you need to hold your nerve, @Morana8.

Firstly, there is no need to detail your financial situation here; its unlikely any of us will be on the assessment panel - and this is a public forum.

You have a child talented enough to be considered - focus on that. No one undertaking the interview wants you to feel uncomfortable - you are not begging, they will only offer the scholarship if they feel there will be a benefit to the school community in having your child there. Presumably they already have all your details from your application form? If anything additional is needed, have it to hand or explain why you can't provide evidence.

The main thing that can help is having an alternative option, and not making your child feel that this is all or nothing (though I know it may feel like that to you).

Stay optimistic, whatever the outcome.

Thank you @MetaDaughter sorry if I came across detailing not my intention at all 🙈

Thank you for your wise words. Always good to gain some perspective from an outsider! Appreciate it.

I have a bursary interview tomorrow and would be tremendously helpful to hear how it went and what they are asking generally. Any advise would be helpful. 🙏
