I have posted this twice as it wasn't getting a good look in on the HE forums.

I want to watch this tonight... I'm taking part in a two year research project into fostering creativity in young children. Thanks for posting it.

discoverlife.

He thinks schools may stifle creativity.

I wouldn't have expected you to make that mistake

TheodoresMummy · 07/02/2008 15:15

'tis a very good speech. Makes a lot of sense to me.

And yes, it's the existing education system(s) that he is criticising, not education.

needmorecoffee · 07/02/2008 15:32

thinks he's mean schooling and teaching to the test.

discoverlife · 07/02/2008 22:25

Sorry ladies, Very PMT-ish ATM, it should have said schools, but there is no easy way to edit once you have posted. I don't get this wobbly very often, but when I do everything and everyone suffers.

I was only teasing you discoverlife. I've been reading the HE threads.

Hope you're not cross .

It was interesting and I'm glad you posted it .

discoverlife · 07/02/2008 22:37

Nah! not cross. I have told myself not to get so defensive about HE'ing, and the new thread seems to be trying to be civilised, so I won't be posting in it till my PMS settles down, or I will end up with a terrible rep.

Thanks for this, discoverlife. Confirms my suspicions of the NC. A really funny and thought provoking listen.

dontwanttogetoutofbed · 07/02/2008 22:58

i think school stifles creativity for certain children.

today i watched my daughter in class, she is 3, she was coloring in a giraffe. she was asked 'what colour is a giraffe' she wanted to colour in pink. the teacher said 'no use the yellow'....

discoverlife · 08/02/2008 01:37

MY Ds refuses to draw or colour because he knows he will get it wrong. Now that is definatly not our doing, I love having monsters stuck on my fridge, the more way out the better. But he will not even pick up a colouring pen and he won't even attempt a colouring book because he says he makes a mess of it because he goes outside the lines. Again I haven't done this, who has?

He isn't against schools, and education experts are starting to listen. Good schools are being allowed to get away from the straightjacket of the NC.

bump for the morning crowd.

yes DH made me watch this and keeps telling all our friends about it-curiously he has taken no other interest in

  1. discussing school options for DS
  2. visiting schools or even in
  3. discussing me cutting down my working hours so I can spend more time with ds let alone
  4. occasionally getting home before 9 so he can read the odd bedtime story and he is a creative type himself. Can you tell I am rather cross with him at the moment?
