What level is common entrance compared to GCSE?

I am slaving over Level 3 common entrance maths with DS1 in preparation for scholarship exams. How does it compare in terms of level of difficulty to GCSE? Is it higher tier? foundation tier?

I'm hoping that having climbed this common entrance mountain the GCSE peak will be not so far above us? Or am I deluded?

Varies by subject. Maths, Science and English still have a way to go, MFL not so much.

Scholarship level CE is still significantly below GSCe maths. I don't have a clue what foundation level is

I would think CASE maths is somewhere around foundation level - no need to know vectors, circle theorem, algebraic fractions, cosines/ sines/ tangents etc. I have attached a link to the requirements if that's of interest

Not quite true, you can sit higher level and still achieve 4 or below.

MrPickles73 · 17/01/2023 15:43

LIZS that's true. You can always fail :-)

LIZS what I meant was you have to sit higher if you want to get more than a 4. My understanding is the most you can get on foundation is a 4...

And you can get up to a 5 on Foundation tier.

TeenDivided · 17/01/2023 15:46

You can get 1-5 on Foundation, and 3-9 on Higher.

No idea about CE though.

MFL tend to have covered a lot of the vocabulary by CE but not all the tenses or topics expected for gcse. Is there a listening exam at CE?

Fudgeball123 · 17/01/2023 19:36

Lizs yes listening, speaking, reading and writing at CE
