No!

barnbaby · 16/01/2023 13:38

I quite often think about this. I think I would. I was at a boarding school and was bullied and generally suffered without having a parent in my day to day life to love me. I think my children are having a happier, albeit less glamorous education than mine.

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 16/01/2023 13:40

Yes, my dc have a lovely school

BertieBotts · 16/01/2023 13:42

Yes - I love DS's school, it's amazing!! It looks like Hogwarts/some kind of fancy private school (it's actually just a bog standard state school, they are like that in Germany) and it has some really fascinating classes.

The only downside would be having to speak German, but I suppose I'd pick it up!

OhCrumbsWhereNow · 16/01/2023 13:53

Yes - it's a state comprehensive, but a great deal better at everything than my super-selective grammar.

More subject choices, nicer teachers, better extra curricular options and my DD is considerably happier than I was at the same age.

GreenLeavesRustling · 16/01/2023 13:54

Yeah my DC are really happy and thriving
normal state comprehensive

TheaBrandt · 16/01/2023 13:56

Yes definitely it’s all girl I would have loved that. Both mine extremely happy there with great friends - they have a lovely life! I was quite jealous at the 6th form open evening

ofwarren · 16/01/2023 13:57

Definitely. They are amazing with his sensory issues, and I really could have benefitted.

Orangebadger · 16/01/2023 13:59

Yep absolutely! They are at a wonderful state primary, 3 form entry in London. Awesome teachers and a real emphasis on community spirit and fun!

Catspyjamas17 · 16/01/2023 14:00

DD1's yes, DD2's no. Their primary school - absolutely.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 16/01/2023 14:00

Yes, in fact I chose it at least in part because it reminded my old primary school - single form entry, big playing field, mostly kind and nurturing staff. They've both been very happy there.

StarDolphins · 16/01/2023 14:01

I would! I LOVE the no nonsense HT & they do lots of great things there.

I would actually prefer to go to any school than go to work though!

HippyChickMama · 16/01/2023 14:09

DD's primary, yes, it's a lovely school, ds went there too and it's been consistently amazing.

I did go to ds's high school, kind of, it's built on the site of the high school I went to and some of the staff are still there

lovechickencrisps · 16/01/2023 14:23

I did go do my DC's school. Infact it's better now than it was then. My middle child does nothing but complain about his classmates and how argumentative they are though. Not sure I'd like to be in that particular class but the school itself seems nice.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 16/01/2023 16:37

Totally

Cute village first school
Nurturing middle school with lots of subject specialist teachers and loads of extra curricular activities from Y6.
High school - 3 years of grind, but without little kids about, massive playing fields, great music facilities. Super strict but DS seems to like that. He thrives on routine and boundaries.

LegoGoldenDragon · 16/01/2023 17:01

No, but mainly because I hated school. The idea of going back to any school fills me with horror.

PinkHeadphones · 16/01/2023 17:08

DS1 - in some ways yes, it's a highly academic grammar that gives children room to be their quirky selves. But actually no, because it doesn't do drama as a lesson, which I loved, there's much more of a focus on music, which I was rubbish at, and they have to do all three sciences which would have been my nightmare. Also, its a boys school, so I wouldn't be able to anyway.
DS2 - absolutely not. It has a zero tolerance attitude to behaviour and uniform coupled with poor communication which would have had me riddled with anxiety.
Their primary school, yes.

NellyBarney · 17/01/2023 10:46

No, school has become such hard work!! I think I never did homework until year 5, a mixed bag of As and Bs that required hardly any revision was enough to get me into Oxbridge, and grade 3 at 11plus made you look like a musical genius in my time. Now even an ordinary red brick wants Astars and many 13 year olds play 2 instruments at grade 8 levels or even diploma, spend all Saturday at the juniour department, play competitive sports on top of long school days 3 days week and homework and revision and tutoring and music practice goes on for hours each day as standard for so many kids. So many kids are doing 10, 12, even 14 hours days, every day. I couldn't do it. The school looks lovely, better facilities than in my time, nicer teachers, less being shouted at or having stuff thrown at you by teachers. But more work than I could cope with.

tonystarksrighthand · 17/01/2023 10:47

I did go to my childs school Smile

Remaker · 17/01/2023 10:53

I would have loved to go to my DD’s all girls selective secondary. I was bullied horribly by boys who were outraged I was cleverer than them. No boys and an environment where being bright is normal would have been bliss! And they offer loads of different sports which was my other passion.
