Does anyone have any thoughts on these A-Levels.
Wants to do human geography and ?? at university BUT for us to support him there will need to be a plan for a career after university as funding him will be a real struggle.

Choices
Definitely Geography.

Business Studies
Politics
Chemistry

Too vague, too odd, any thoughts really appreciated.

Often the higher grades are attained in more traditional subjects. Better people do economics. Less talented do business studies as it’s not very mathsy.

What an utterly twattish thing to say. “Better people”. FFS

I can't get past BUT for us to support him there will need to be a plan for a career after university - I think this is completely unreasonable. You simply can't hold a child to this kind of objective. What if he hates his degree? What if his plans change?

If I was him I would not be thanking you for this unreasonable and unfair pressure.

I think it's very hard for DCs to choose a career - often end up following parents or relatives as that is what they have some idea of.

Could geology be an idea - the desperate needfor rare earth metals in wind turbines, electric cars etc.

@Ciri Thank you your lovely comment. Most people understand the difference between DC who do FM (say) snd Business Studies. I meant more academic. Sorry if my shorthand offended you. My DD did Business Studies.

Calling those who do economics "better people" to those who do business studies is offensive yes.

I did economics personally so its not insulting me but it's a horrible thing to say.

They are better academically. You take offence very easily. My DD did Business Studies. She knows the brighter ones didn’t., by snd large. We need honest discussions. Maths and Economics frequently isn’t for Business Studies students.

The most obvious pairing from those is Geography and Politics. Since those are both good sensible subjects for a social science degree, third A-Level could be in anything really. If very interested in Chemistry then that's fine, but if not absolutely wild about it, I'd suggest looking at whether something else is more appealing as Chemistry is quite different.

It's often the case that if both Economics and Business Studies are offered at the same school then more academic students will take Economics, but I'm not sure whether that's still true if only Business Studies is available. And in any case, it's perfectly fine for a third subject.

Lots of possibilities with a Geography degree. Public sector/civil service, property, transport planning,...

I don’t think he needs to have a plan yet. A lot of great careers don’t require a specific degree subject. The a level mix looks fine but if he can do maths it will be very useful.
