Likelihood of a fine?

Hi,
We have an afternoon booked off for a special family event. I'd need to pick our 3 primary school children up at 1230pm so they'd miss the afternoon of school.

Today I received the (expected) unauthorised absence letter. However, it basically states if we take them, we are likely to be fined by the council £60 per child, per parent!!!!!

How likely is this for 1 afternoon? We have never done this before - attendance is almost 100% for all our kids

Very likely.

In my local authority....highly unlikely.
The letters have to contain all of the 'this absence may result in a fine' just incase there are further unauthorised absences which could, cumulatively, meet the local authority's fine threshold criteria but no, a single half day absence wouldn't attract a fine. I think it will be hard to get a definitive answer on here but the school may tell you if you phone and enquire as to the reality of being fined.

Thank you!
Had a look on the council's website and it states the threshold for a fine, and luckily half a day doesn't come anywhere near the threshold. Phew
