This what what some of our teachers are thinking?

Are teachers as pleasant as they’d like us to think?

Are they this judgemental?

No teachers are pleasant as they'd like us to think. Not one. Every single qualified teacher is this judgmental.

Hope that helps.

Sandysandwich · 26/10/2022 14:05

One of my teachers, in 2013, when telling us that they had gotten a new job, said they were excited to be getting out of 'chavland' and that our school was a 'training ground for dealers and pimps'.

Some people are arseholes and are judgemental and some of those people will be teachers. There are shitty people in every profession.

JackieCollinsExistentialQuestionTime · 26/10/2022 14:06

This doesn’t surprise me, unfortunately!

Bokkenrijders · 26/10/2022 14:07

Some teachers are amazing. Some are shit. Some fall in somewhere between the two. Just like anyone.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 26/10/2022 14:07

It's a 10-year-old set of (very stupid) tweets and teachers, like every other profession, has good and bad people who have good and bad days. It would be naive to think otherwise.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 26/10/2022 14:08

OP what are your views on this thread you have started?

FreshCop · 26/10/2022 14:14

One of my teachers played the national anthem during detention and told me that I should learn it.

Before he did that he asked if I needed a translator… clearly did not.

This is a weirdly goady take on the story, and a strange choice of sub forum if you just want to slag teachers off.

Some teachers will be shit. Many are brilliant.

Some will have had dodgy views when young that they have now grown out of.

drawstringbags · 26/10/2022 14:21

Unfortunately it doesn't surprise me. I know that statistically there will be people like this in any large group, be it in education, the medical profession or the police.
Personally though I believe that those that work in such roles should be held to a higher standard, and therefore would hope they face tougher consequences than someone working in a generic office environment.

Georgeskitchen · 26/10/2022 14:28

Teachers are allowed to have private opinions. What they should not be doing is posting them on public forums.

Some people just never learn!!

Mumoblue · 26/10/2022 14:31

This doesn’t surprise me at all. Teachers obviously have a very difficult job but some shouldn’t be in the profession at all. If you ask people what the worst thing a teacher said to then when they were a student you’ll hear some shocking things.

2tired2bewitty · 26/10/2022 14:34

It still astonishes me that there are people who are in the public eye with identifiable Twitter feeds who haven’t either read back through past tweets or just deleted everything more than a few years old so they can’t be caught out like this.

ditalini · 26/10/2022 14:36

One of my teacher friend's parents threw a hissy fit and complained to the head teacher when friend wouldn't tell him what name he went under on Facebook so that he could send him a friend request "to see what sort of person he was".

Are all parents this entitled? No, obviously not.

(Friend, like all sensible teachers, went under a version of real name, locked down as tightly as possible and with no discussion of job on social media).

My mum worked for the NHS and told me they’d regularly say things to each other like “be careful he’s an architect, watch out he’s a barrister” etc regarding patients 😂

So obviously would be more wary of those they felt held more authority.

Surely there are judgemental teachers and not so judgemental teachers, like there are judgemental and not judgemental people in other occupation?
So generalization is pointless, imo.

fannyfartlet · 26/10/2022 16:02

I had the unfortunate pleasure of working with Ms Hallam several years ago and she is a nasty bitch. Not at all surprised by these comments but she doesn't reflect the teaching profession.

I do think they should be held to a higher standard of conduct, but that doesn’t seem to be of importance in this country, look at our leadership for example.

She's not changed

Jabba the slut is very funny though. And I would never use the term slut

If you are going top expect teachers to be held to a higher code of conduct, 2 things IMO should happen.
1/ pay them more
2/ treat them with respect.

as neither is happening, you get what you deserve.
