I am Catholic went to RC school as does my son (in 1st year) now. But I am not very religious I just think religion is guide book thats all. My son came home last week with a newsletter contained within was a thankyou note from the governers thanking the local "society for the protection of the unborn child" visiting the 6th formers. I and my partner sat our son down and explained that despite what the school say you must use contraception in later life unless you want to have 10 kids of course (which there is nothing wrong with) but perhaps not so young. I think you should just pay lip service to heir narrow minded philsposphy on contraception and do what we have done and tell him that nothings perfect and religion is a guide and if he is preached to by anti-abortion people he does what we have told and say his parents have said he cannot attend. On a lighter note my missue overheard 3 6 formers 4 days later in tesco discussing which condoms to buy! one even said "mum said get these!"

dinahmoemum · 27/01/2008 10:54

but lad2dad therein lies the problem. we are teaching our kids that nothing is sacred (excuse the pun).

dinahmoemum · 27/01/2008 10:55

and what about teaching them the wisdom of using contraception to stave off sexually transmitted diseases!!!!!!

motherinferior · 27/01/2008 10:57

Ah, but one is not meant to be having sex outside the Sacred Contract of Marriage, is one.

Bundle - who sent her adorable daughters to Catholic school because she is ahem a Catholic - does always point out that these things kind of come with the territory of Catholicism.

Fromlad2dad · 27/01/2008 10:58

dinahmoemum apologies I am new to this. When you say nothing is scared do you mean do you mean taeched how important virginity is to kids and waiting until they find the right partner?

Fromlad2dad · 27/01/2008 11:02

I am well aware that catholism has this policy on contraception doesnt mean I have to endorse it. I think if you want your child to do well at a good school and give them the best we have to just put up with ideas we dont like. I dont like some of my customers and dont agree with how they operate as businesses or with there staff but I anot going to tell them am I? I know it sounds a barmy comparison but its not actually I just have to bite my lip!

Just wanted to say for once I agree with Xenia - wonders never cease ! The sign of a divine being maybe??

the Sacred Contract of Marriage, Umm lets think, in an ideal world, nobody would have sex nor a child outside of marriage (as my parents did) there would be no illness and everyone would be fit and healthy. no unwanted children would be born and no abuse, no one would be homeless, nor hungry, there would be no corrupt governments, and no greed.

Sadly we live in a far from ideal world and our job as parents is to equip our children for it the best we can.
Yes teach them morals (something sadly lacking these days) but at the same time teach them that the world is not a big shiny coke add or something from the hallmark channel and they need all the facts.

I would be horrified if when my children started to have sex they did so with out protection, or cause I would be happier if they found one special person and settled down with them in a proper relationship first but that was my choice, it may not be theirs.

Sorry - I thought the speech marks made it clear. I'll have to try harder next time - I obviously wasn't awake enough when I p[osted. Thanks to those who were kind enough to get my drift!

Hello, onebat - how's the Enlightenment Rules OK! campaign going?

GodzillasAbominableBumcheek · 27/01/2008 11:13

I didn't even notice the speech marks How un-observant am I? Do be kind!

GodzillasAbominableBumcheek · 27/01/2008 11:13

I did still realise from the OP though

Blu · 27/01/2008 11:20

LOL at OP / thread title.

But my niece and nephew go to CoE school because not only is it the only school in the village, but it's the only type of school for miles around.
And they have come out with the most extraordinary load of bollocks (imo) about marriage, sex, the list of things for which god holds absolute responsibility (extending through topics of nature, weather, animals, some children's characters, poor people in Africa etc et).

pukkapatch · 27/01/2008 11:23

i read th e title and thought, ffs. what did they silly bint expect.
then read the op. and had to lol at myself.

onebatmother · 27/01/2008 11:37

um... I've been a little remiss, I'm afraid..
give me a kick up the arse please.

discoverlife · 27/01/2008 11:41

In my old home town the girls from the Catholic school had the reputation as being the sluts, because they were supposedly so repressed when they got away from the restrictions they went wild.

Unfitmother · 27/01/2008 11:55

I'm sure it wil happen a lot and it will serve them right!
