Where does LEH fit in terms of competitiveness of the SW london schools? We are moving to Hampton and so it would be our first choice but I don't know where it fits in terms of competitiveness- I think St Paul's girls is the hardest, what about all the Kingston schools? I have seen people ranking the boys schools so I would appreciate some guidance here and an idea of what to go for as a second or third choice. DS has got into Hampton school so LEH would be really good for DD and for drop offs and travelling together

LEH is ranked highly for competitiveness and academics. I’d say just below St Paul’s but above KGS / Putney / WHS / Surbiton. Probably on a par with Godolphin and Latymer in Hammersmith.

What age is your daughter as well? This can impact how difficult it is to get into etc.

My daughters go to LEH. We don't find LEH that competitive. I think LEH is more about trying out things, finding new passions - be that academic, sporty, musical, CCF, etc. My daughters have given tours to prospective parents and pupils. They have been asked many direct questions and have given honest and positive answers. You could tour the schools you are interested in and chat to current pupils, may be one school would stand out? LEH really has the most amazing music department with many fabulous concerts and the theatrical productions are incredible. Sports facilities are superb and the sports calendar is very full. A lot of girls do many extra-curricular clubs - there's so much opportunity. If this sounds like your daughter would enjoy it, then I would apply regardless of any perceived competitiveness. Good luck.

Thanks loads for replies. She is currently yr 6 so about to take the Iseb for LEH. We have also put her in for PHS as a backup but I wasn't sure how it and others compared, so thanks for info. We were too late for KGS and Tiffin. She is a bright girl who has been in a prep school for the last year and a bit and one of her teachers who once worked at LEH says it would be a good fit for her. However she is feeling very anxious about the test and how many apply for it.

I would take any way as much anxiety as possible and not put any pressure on the test. She'll be a good fit and the sort of person they want or not. Resilience, being brave and integrity are highly valued at LEH. Keep calm and carry on! Good luck!

my DD went to Putney High. It was fab. She now goes to LEH and loves it. If you’re local and DS does to Hanpton, it’s a no barianer. If she gets in that is! Good luck. They will all get into the college they want irrespective of the school at this level.

Octopusdreams · 11/11/2022 12:07

LEH is competitive to get into to and academically very good. I think you might need another back up too as PHS is also very good (and therefore completion for places is high). Is she trying for any others - Surbiton/Radnor/St Catherine’s as a back up?

No you can't assume that they will all get into the college they want at this level. No guarantee at all. For example Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, medicine and other very competitive courses. It is far from a given that just because you get into a fairly selective school, the offers will follow. These days are gone.
