Are schools asking too much of parents these days?

I think back to my own childhood where my mum occasionally helped out as a spare pair of hands at a school trip and donated something for a raffle.

My kids' school seem to be asking more and more of parents to help out, or in some cases deliver, things that would historically have been the role of the teacher to do. I know times are tough and resources short but surely the answer is to recruit more teachers and argue that the budget needs to be increased for education instead of asking parents, many of whom will work, to step in for a cheap fix.

The kids love the pointless fundraiser!

Recruit teachers from where exactly?

I don't agree OP.

In the 80s, the summer of our A'levels, rather than leaving school after taking our exams, two of the fathers (with building skills), plus nine of us, demolished the cricket pavilion before it fell down, and built a new one. 😊

With my DS, we've always provided art supplies, transport for swimming, support for reading practice etc. I regard it as normal.

Dont forget that many have 2 parents working in the household these days with less staying at home and single parent households than there may have been in the past. Obviously there still needs to be parental guidance and teaching but it feels like there arent enough hours in the day sometimes.
