11+ timing and tutors

I'm looking for tutor recommendations in London. My DC is at a state school and doing reasonably well, but I suspect she'd be much better placed to sit the 11+ with tuition support. I've looked online, but it's hard to know which firms offer the best service. I'd also like impartial advice on my DC's chances and target schools. Many thanks in advance for any names or companies you can recommend.

MNHQ Update
This is an old thread, but if you've come across it while on the hunt for similar recommendations, our guide to the best online tutoring has been recently updated. It includes a wide range of options to suit kids of all ages, many of which have been highly recommended by Mumsnet users. We hope it's helpful! Flowers

I am an 11+ tutor.
(this is not advertising, I'm not your area and I don't do online)

To see if he is the right level, start with his report. Is is working above average in English and maths. That is pretty much the prerequisite for 11+.

Although some people start tutoring in year 3 or 4, generally speaking tutoring through year 5 should be enough. I tend to think that if you need to start in year 3 then they shouldn't be doing the exam.

Tutors do group sessions, or one to one, and in person or online.
I would always choose an in person tutor where possible at this age. Also I'd choose a one to one or a small group 2-3 people at most. Turoting should be targetting to the child and that isn't possible in a larger group.

London is very competitive, and the standard is very high, and the price of tutors reflects that unfortunately

We used this agency and the tutor is seems knowledgeable. Exams start next week though, so we will see how accurate her prediction are 😂

Thank you for your reply and advice steppemum

And to you too KindergartenKop. I'll take a look at that site. Best of luck to your DC!

Any other parents in London have other tutors they have used and would recommend?

We're using Tayberry for the 11+ - they're absolutely fab! They also offered us advice on schools too

DS and a number of his friends used West London Tuition. Online, 4-5 kids in a group, very good, support in all areas including NVR etc.

They all got offers!
