Hi
We are now going to write to charities to see if they can help towards the remaining costs of private school which was recommended for us to do . My child hasn’t done no tests as of yet as one school they don’t start them till Nov / Dec this year and in Jan / Feb and next year 2023 .
Anyhow has anyone ever done one of these letters to these charities . I don’t know how /where to start it

Thank you :)

Why would a charity pay your son's school fees? I don't get it. Schools have bursary schemes though. You should apply for a bursary.

Hi we have applied for a bursary but it’s not a lot . Hence the charities which are for use within the school . Is there a problem ? I was actually asking for help in writing a letter if you read my post .
Obviously there are charities that have been recommended that help children within the school and new pupils going to that particular school so that’s why these charities that are organisations have this help for this school . Thank you though for your comment . But it doesn’t help me !!!! Not what I was asking . In my eyes obviously you haven’t heard of any charities within these private schools that are there to help parents whether new pupils starting or pupils already there .

I imagine you write setting out your circumstances and why you need the assistance however like Xela I haven’t come across charities funding school fees.

Ok... maybe if you name the charities people will know what you're talking about. 🤷‍♀️My daughter has been in private schools since reception (now Year 8) and I have never heard of it. I have heard of 100% bursaries or a bursary/scholarship combination that covers 100% of the fees. Some schools are more generous than others, but ig all depends on the outcome of entrance exams.

Most schools offer bursaries that cover up to 100% of fees.
The only charities that I know of that pay for private school fees are one specifically for children who have a parent with a life limiting condition. If you are applying for one of these then you need to be really specific about how you meet their criteria.

OP have you looked at this website? Educational grant charities

They do seem to expect you to have very specific circumstances but it's clear that such charities do exist.

What year is your child in? It's not very clear from your post. If they've not actually started GCSE courses yet, it may be best to consider moving them to state school at the end of this academic year or sooner. The fees will only carry on going up and you can not guarantee that these or any charities will be able to provide long term support or that you will not find yourself paying an increasing contribution.

Some schools are more generous than others with bursaries. For example there is one near us that charges £40 a year to a small number of students and then charges on a sliding scale according to income right up to full fees. However, they are extremely selective even for full payers but their results are phenomenal.

PS - if you have a particular charity in mind, I suggest visiting their website. They will often have application forms or contact information. Most will ask for quite detailed information - not just "I want Freddy to remain in school but I'm skint"

If you gave the names of the charities it would be much easier for posters to advise.
