I wondered if anyone could provide any recent views on the school. We liked the feel at the open day but would appreciate views on how academic it is / how pushy - would it suit a boy who isn’t great at Hockey/Rugby? And how competitive is the entry process? Thank you!

Thank you so much, this is really helpful - do you have any view on the CAT scores needed for success? If successful with year 7 entry we will definitely move our younger child to St Neots.

Thank you, we hadn’t considered PC but I will take a look (we have Shiplake as a potential back up). St Neots were incredibly helpful, the tie in between the schools seems very well thought out.

Hi @LookingUp2021

I'm considering St.Neots, Eversley for my son for year 3 starting 2023. I have been on their open morning, the school facilities look ok, but it's difficult to judge how good academically they are. Do you have any views on the quality of teachers in year 3-6, do they provide enough support, is there proper assessment through the year?

Other school I'm considering are Yateley Manor and Holme Grange. Any views on them?

Many thanks @LookingUp2021 for realy good suggestions. You're right that schools claim a lot in their open mornings, but the process of achieving them isn't very apparent. I'll speak to admissions before going ahead

Thanks @LookingUp2021 for your suggestion. Daneshill is slightly far compared to St.Neots but I'll have a look. My son is quite good but he needs a bit of push which I'm hoping he'll get in a private school. I'm not sure if St.Neot is academic, it's very difficult to judge without knowing any recent experience from a parent.

I know a few parents from Holme Grange and they all had good feedback. It didn't sound very academic but overall education seems to be good.

Hi!
Are there any prevent reviews of this school?

I have 3 children and I can’t rate St Neots high enough, i should start by saying that my son (who’s just left) started in year 1… he actually repeated year one after leaving another prep school who didn’t have the right learning support. Anyhow, I’ll fill you in on my 3!
So ones just left St Neot’s and I have 2 more there, one in year 3 and one in reception. All 3 of my children are different, my eldest son is VERY sporty, academically he was ok, he needed regular 1-2-1 with SEN due to adhd and dyslexia but the support he received from the school was faultless!
Its probably a good place to say how outstanding the staff are at the school, every member of the staff are dedicated and it shows, from the teaching staff, kitchen staff to the caretakers, the children know them all…. (And keep and eye out for Martin, the caretaker - the kids think he’s great!) my son left with good CAT scores and an offer for Bradfields. He was pushed academically with an amount of pressure I was happy with.

Now my eldest daughter … she’s in year 3, not very sporty, a little bit dreamy but happy! Has friends across all year groups and everyone knows her. She isn’t in top sets but she is achieving to her best ability and the school are working with her to reach her full potential. The school has an open door, so any concerns you can quickly talk them through.

as for my youngest in reception … it’s hard to tell (haha) she’s a cheeky soul. Loves life and throughly enjoys all the school has to offer. It’s a pretty out doors school, they use the outdoor space well, first school is a huge hit, sport is excellent. Swimming lessons are great. Expect your child to but off some serious energy!

As for the ‘new’ head, he’s a real credit to the school, he’s often out in the mornings welcoming in the children for the day, or he can be seen on match days supporting the children. I was there before he arrived and yes I did take a slight nose dive but it’s improved leaps and bounds since Mr Slot took over. I believe he was at Eagle house before - we are lucky to have him.

I honestly can’t rate the school high enough. Best place in the world for my children.

As for Holme Grange - I can’t speak from experience but my brother has 2 children there are they are very happy with the school.

Hope that helps… any questions please do ask! Also sorry for typos - I’m getting kids ready for bed but couldn’t scroll past this thread.
