Anyone with a child that plays the harp?

My dd wants to learn. I have located a possible teacher. What questions should I ask?
Anything else I should know? She has been inspired by visits to Ireland and at the moment is interested in the Celtic type harps the orchestral harps.

DD plays the harp. She plays a lever harp which is easier for her to manage in terms of size (she's not quite 7 yet) although some teachers start with a pedal harp straight away. The basic technique is the same regardless of harp "type" though.

Not quite sure what questions you might want to ask, DD plays in a harp group so it might be worth asking about those sort of possibilities?

There is someone on mumsnet with a harp playing dd - can't remember who right now.

That's really unhelpful I know, but at least it bumps it. Dd has a friend who plays harp brilliantly. They are big, big impractical instruments for transporting though (think the celtic ones are slightly less unwieldy than the orchestral ones) and mega expensive, but apart from those drawbacks lovely instruments.

Here's a picture of DD's harp (although hers is a pretty colour!) This type fits on the backseat of a Corsa so not any worse than a cello. www.morleyharps.co.uk/acatalog/Hempson_34.html

You can hire them if you don't want to buy.

DD doesn't need to take hers to lessons so it may be worth asking if you'll have to transport it every week.

Thanks marialuisa, that is helpful.
