We are looking this school for my son for Y4 entry next year. He has dyslexia and dyspraxia, and possibly ADHD (inattentive). Very bright. He's doing well at his current prep school; however, he definitely is not achieving his full potential (without sounding like a crazy tiger Mum, that was conclusion of Ed Psych, we didn't realise how bright he was till that point).

He's happish, but we have started to see self-esteem issues arise. I just get the sense over the next few years he may become more and more the odd one out. Most of the boys want to play football all break time and my child struggles to play.

Are they good for very bright children? Or are we better staying where we are with 1:1 on top. My concern at the moment is his 1:1 is very much go out the classroom and then come back and crack on. I like the fact this would not happen at Bruern Abbey.

What's behaviour like? I've had reports of "free-range children". My son is very obedient (possibly too much) and I worry if he was surrounded by lots of boisterous children it may be too much.

Yes it is very free range & chaotic so might not suit him, they won’t take him if they don’t think he’ll fit in. Supportive environment and will do wonder for self esteem and confidence, everything is tailored to them working on a computer. My friend works there so have heard about over the years & enjoyed attending fireworks & some of their other events. Their new Senior school looks interesting. Good Luck.

@Beachcomber74 thank you for that. It's really helpful.

Yes I was interested by the senior school as well. If we moved him for Y4 I would prefer if possible for him to stay after Y8 (I know on a different site, but still not go through re-applying for somewhere else at 11 and 13).

Our grandson has attended the junior school for the last 4 years. He has ADHD and struggled at his previous (private) school.
Bruern has been brilliant for him. It is nurturing and confidence giving. He is bright, but not particularly academic, though a lot of the boys there are and they do well.
When his parents decided to send him there they made a brilliant choice. He was so unhappy before and has been transformed.

@Framilode thank you for that feedback. That's great to hear your grandson has got on so well, especially with ADHD.

Hi my son was at Bruern junior and now at bruern senior - happy to talk. just
PM me and we can fix a time. I love it there, my ds loves it there and s thriving. He is academically bright and able. I wouldn't have him anywhere else.

Hi, my ds loves it there. He has moved onto Bruern senior and loves there too. Its not chaotic - its a fun, nurturing place with a heavy emphasis on education and bolstering confidence. Best decision I ever made.

Hello, I am also considering this school for my son.
Any current parents, how do you find the pastoral care? I worry about the boarding aspect and wondered what the set up of this is like?
Thanks

I love the place and pastoral care is so nurturing. The look after your ds as though he is theirs
