How far back in reports do independent selective schools look...

Dc has just received their end of year reports. It's a sad situation for maths this year and I'm worried! Will this go against them?! It's a bit of a blip for dc but also I agree, it isn't looking good atm re maths.

I've now hired a tutor but need some reassurance this isn't the be all and end all as we're heading into year 5 now and I imagine schools will be looking at year 4 reports as well as those going forward.

IME they only ask for most recent report.

selective independent schools asks for last 2 year report but non-selectlve ones doesnt even ask for last one. Some of them even asks for reference from current schools. So its depends on the school.

I’m a school Registrar. We ask for most recent reports and a reference. We are largely making decisions based on the tests they take at our school and the interview.

@Errent hi, may I learn if you consider pupil current school? If it state or independent etc

We did the London private school 11+ this year. A couple asked us for the Y5 report, all said they would contact dd’s primary school for a reference. As the primary school doesn’t do references, the secondary schools will just have been sent a copy of her Y5 report.

There was no mention at all of the Y4 report. One secondary school did ask for a summary of lockdown learning provision, which I thought was sensible. I wrote out a factual list, as I knew the primary school wouldn’t.

Nope. We have feeder schools that if we’re having a busy year we may feel obliged to prioritise, but I will look at all applicants on merit.

I have no interest in current school type or indeed things such as parent status. As long as the child’s parents can pay the bill and the child will fit in and, in my opinion, thrive, they can come from anywhere. Home schooled, international (assuming language level is met), independent school or state primary, are all treated equally.

I work at a high ranking well respected school, we’re academically rigorous and very sought after, particularly in our region.

Thank you. Dc is about to start year 5 so hopefully we can turn it around.
Thank you as well @Errent I always wanted to homeschool but kept my dc in school because I worried schools wouldn't accept a homeschooled candidate, think we are too late now for this dc but helpful to know for the next dc.
