Hi.
What are views on St Swithurns Winchester?
is it worth it with Peter Symonds 6th form being so high achieving locally?
What does it add over the local comprehensive's?
We are unfortunately no longer catchment for the Winchester comps so debating this school. But is 22k plus per year really worth in when the state sector is very good in this part of Hampshire?
DD is very bright and also a lovely happy little girl, I want the best for her obviously but also for her to be a good person.
What is known about this school? what are its issues? is it worth the cost?

Where are you in catchment for?
Do you want all girls?
Surely PS is irrelevant as you could go to St Swithuns and then go on to PS for 6th form?
Don't forget to factor in travel time.
I think she could be a 'good person' regardless.

We are just outside catchment for all 3 Winchester comps. Older siblings are in one and absolutely thriving ( top sets). But due to age gap and extensive building around Winchester our youngest ( and only girl) is unlikely to get in.
Local school rated outstanding but not as pushy or high achieving as HB, W or K. Or at least doesn't seem it. It's in a nice area no big issues just not quite as pushy. Sits just below HB in league table.
I have no big feelings on single sex or mixed.
Husband is ex too public school and doesn't view private worth it unless it's one of the really pushy schools. So he is dismissing schools like at Gabrielle's.
He favours the Winchester comps. But if she can't get in there what do we do?
Nice local school she can walk to but may not get the push to really achieve.
Or st S? I can drop her off on way into work so not a problem getting there.

Maybe learn how to spell it first!

Well yep that would help! Predictive text and fat fingers never help.
Opinions on schools not my ability to use a phone please!

I don't know anything much about St Sw, but a lot of the schools around and abouts are pretty good, Romsey, Mountbatten, Perrins, Thornden, Toynbee all have pretty good reps, don't know about those in other directions.

For my DC 'pushy' would have been a bad thing, though high aspirations for all was a good thing. I think you need to think what you want from a school and go from there.

Also be careful re pushy v mental health.
