Ofsted report

I do know there's no point second guessing but!
School has expressed to Ofsted their view is the report needs factual alterations before it is shared.

Is this quite standard, or does this likely mean it's a not very favourable report?

My concern is because it's an expensive SEN placement so a poor report could mean LA pull my DC out.

My nursery recently had one and their fighting to get some wording changed.
It was down to something ridiculous but the way it's worded makes it sound worse

ThePenOfMyAunt · 06/05/2022 16:10

What rating did the nursery get?

I know I'm being ridiculous, but I'm really worried what will happen if it gets Inadequate or even RI.

They've still remained at good. But still fighting for word correction.

ThePenOfMyAunt · 06/05/2022 16:42

That's reassuring, thank you.

Just hoping for the same outcome

Does your placement for your DC really depend on an Ofsted report? I’d be amazed if it did.

What you should realise is that if the report is RI or worse, your DC won’t have been well educated for several years. It’s likely a poor Ofsted is the turning point. Things would then improve. So I cannot see why any LA would pull funding due to Ofsted. Unless the school was doing something illegal and safeguarding was an issue.

If the school is arguing about something they don’t like the report, it’s usually a sign it’s not favourable. Factual isn’t interpretation though. What facts I wonder? Often schools don’t see their own failings and have their heads in the sand. Ofsted then seems to trample on their self belief because the school has not acted to improve and Ofsted point that out.,Hope I’m wrong though.,

It's possible the LA could call an Early Review and say it can't meet his needs with the poor rating. Only likely for inadequate rather than RI. Tribunals are generally reluctant to agree inadequate rated placements. Then there's the recently published Green Paper which targets expensive independents as providing poor value for money.

We'd gone to tribunal over it with LA insisting mainstream could meet needs. There was a considerable cost difference between LA choice and ours, and I think LA really thought they had it in the bag. Instead, tribunal favoured us and were quite damning of the LA.

My child's been at the school under 2 years. Though his previous school hadn't got higher than RI in some years.

Hopefully at most it's a drop to RI. They've had consistent Good ratings previously and inspected roughly every 3 years.

Just have to wait and see.

You’d DC is already at the school though. It’s a big upheaval to find somewhere else. You will have to wait and see. However if it’s RI they really could improve quickly. Is it a private school?

NotYourOscarSpeech · 07/05/2022 19:37

Possibly something to do with safeguarding paperwork. Safeguarding failures are fatal on an Ofsted inspection and schools will trip over to try and prove they followed proper processes.

ThePenOfMyAunt · 08/05/2022 08:36

TizerorFizz Yes it's an independent school and quite far away, so the transport costs are also high. From the LAs behaviour throughout tribunal, it's very clear they are not concerned about my child's well-being whatsoever. The issue would be where they would place him instead, so that is in my favour, unless they tried to put him back in mainstream.

NotYourOscarSpeech I'm obviously hoping there's not a safeguarding issue but will just have to wait and see.
