Would love to know too.

WaspStingsAreAwful · 27/04/2022 17:19

Are they going to change the name?

Alwayscheerful · 27/04/2022 21:39

Yes the name is now most unfortunate!
How is the school?

Are they going to change the name?

It was given it's name in 1892 after the then Duke of York, who went on to be George V. So no probably not.

Good luck with your question OP, unfortunately not one I've had direct experience with. Hope you don't get any more silly remarks.

I suppose I am asking about the feel of the school and the staff if that makes sense?
My DSis is thinking of sending her daughter there , she is currently at a small, local fee paying school, mostly old money, but lots of new money too with some incredibly flash cars and very indulged children.

Are the parents mostly forces families and what is your friends son happy there?

Yes friends son is very happy there. He's not from a forces family but wants to go into the forces. It's been tough with covid and distance learning as his family are abroad and I don't think he's doing amazingly well academically, but he's happy.

@Smorgs
Thank you, that's a great help.

Isn't this the case at most fee paying schools now?

I recently had the opportunity to experience the Duke of York Royal Military School, particularly Kitchener House, and I'd like to share my thoughts on various aspects of the institution.

First and foremost, the Housemaster and house staff at Kitchener House deserve special recognition. They are truly dedicated professionals who are deeply committed to the well-being and development of the students. Their approachable and supportive demeanor creates a positive atmosphere within the house.

One striking feature of the school is its impressive grounds. The expansive and well-maintained outdoor spaces offer students ample room for recreation and outdoor activities. It's a refreshing aspect of the institution, providing students with opportunities to connect with nature.

I also observed that the children at the Duke of York Royal Military School, particularly those in Kitchener House, generally exhibit polite and respectful behavior. This is a testament to the positive influence of the staff and the values instilled in the students.

However, there are certain aspects of the school that warrant consideration. The dormitories, for instance, are showing their age and could benefit from some modernization. Updated facilities would greatly enhance the living conditions for the students.

One significant concern is the lack of specialist teachers, which can impact the quality of education provided. While the Inclusion House does have a supportive counselor, there appears to be room for improvement in terms of providing specialized educational support tailored to individual needs.

The institution's values, while rooted in tradition, can sometimes come across as outdated in their approach to the challenges faced by children in today's world. A more forward-thinking approach that takes into account the evolving needs and expectations of students would be beneficial.

It has come to my attention that some students resort to going out of bounds and vaping, often discreetly. This suggests that there might be issues with the enforcement of rules and a lack of effective mechanisms for addressing rule violations. The presence of one strict rule that, if not adhered to, results in targeting and potential expulsion, raises concerns about fairness and inclusivity.

Furthermore, it's disconcerting to hear that many students have been asked to leave the school, and parents have been pressured to withdraw them. This situation may give rise to suspicions of a potential cover-up, as a high number of exclusions would likely raise questions. It's crucial that the school's disciplinary processes and the reasons for student departures are transparent and consistent.

In summary, the Duke of York Royal Military School, particularly Kitchener House, has its strengths in terms of its dedicated staff, beautiful grounds, and polite students. However, there are notable areas of improvement needed, including modernizing dormitories, providing specialist teachers, and adopting a more progressive approach to education. Concerns about disciplinary practices and exclusions should also be addressed to ensure fairness and transparency within the institution.

What an odd post?
Not written in English originally?
Seems as if sucked from google or something.

I am a parent and it was NOT chatGPT! this site is for parents to comment and that was experience. Simple take it or leave it... nothing more than that.

Nah, it's ChatGPT.

As above this was our experience. Maybe these comments are from the school admin, trying to discredit, our experience. Ridiculous. but ok.
