Kingswood School, Bath - thoughts?

Hello! We're thinking about moving to the Bath/Bristol area and Kingswood looks like a good option for us. If you've got children there, I'd love to hear your thoughts. We have two DSs, both of whom are very academic and musical. We're not from the area, so this would involve moving house and so we want to try and make sure we choose the right school before deciding to move house!

I have a daughter at KES.

I might be massively out of date, but most parents sent their tennis-gifted kids up to Bath Uni tennis school.

I might be 18 months out of date, but that was what most parents did.

They have middle school there? Forgive me if I don’t know. I know that Bath University is where you go for lessons - and that’s where the tennis playing kids go. But they have a school? It’s not a university?

Sorry to mislead you. Kids still go to mainstream school(s), but have tennis lessons up at the Uni club.

@stillavid I found your comments interesting and very helpful. Would a very academic child thrive at Kingswood and be challenged? I know your view is solely from your experiences but I will greatly appreciate it.. I understand the pastorial care is good and so is the music. We want our DS to do 4 Alevels and be stretched, just wondering if the school can provide that sort of support? Thank you for your feedback

If you are focusing on academic results then I think KES would be more appropriate than Kingswood especially if you are looking for your DS to be pushed and to do 4 A Levels.

I know this thread is now at least a couple of years old, but I'm curious about which school (and area to live in) you decided on and why, and whether you are happy with the outcome so far, @BearBirdBaboon?
We're thinking of making a similar move for start of y7 in 2026. Obviously I do appreciate that children are all different, and yours sound more academic than my son who is high achieving in maths but not particularly above average in other areas. He is also sporty, and into drama, but not particularly into music.
Thanks.

Hi @TiggerSnoozer ! We didn't make the move to the Bath area in the end and are in the West Midlands due to work. My DC go to a pretty middle of the road independent school, academics wise. They're both happy, but I think they'd be more suited to a more academic school. So we're thinking of moving them to a more academic setting for 6th form.
Have you got any schools in mind for your DC?
