I'm really keen to send my son to fosse bank. It seems lovely and small but I've herd of a lot of kids leavin in the upper school. Does anyone know why?

I’ve heard excellent things about Fosse Bank. I’m considering it as well.
I think possibly the numbers got low in the older years due to very good state schools having spaces. Possibly a worry if you have a child which thrives in a very busy environment but seems to cater for the individual which I really like.
I’m actually moving from an ‘outstanding’ state as the class numbers don’t work for my child despite the school being very good. Definitely worth considering.

I have heard the school is in dire straits, all its y4 boys just moved over to my sons school.

Delamero · 25/03/2022 05:57

@beckymum do you know why the boys moved?

I think if you search mumsnet re fossebank you will come across a number of very odd threads about fossebank

I vaguely recall one from years ago where it was deleted because HQ had identified that all the positive posts had been from the school itself!

My info is out of date. All three of my kids were there for a short time before we relocated abroad. I think Fosse is a victim of its smallness. We were very pleased with the school and my kids thrived there but there were a lot of opinions and a lot of negativity from other parents. And there is also the domino effect if one person leaves from such small classes. I have made life long friends from when my kids were small as there is such a community feel there.
I think you need to go and have a look around for yourself. It's not a prep school. It's not a big school. If your child is sporty it may be a problem as the numbers may not be there to make a competitive team.

Go and have a look for yourself

@Delamero I have nothing against fosse bank, I don't know it at all. But I would just be careful , you don't want your child to have to move again because the school has closed.

My sons school is private too . I would say no one is leaving FB's older years to go into state school. I think they are just worried about the future of the school and don't want to risk future upheaval.

Aren't FB proposing to build a housing estate on the grounds to raise funds?

@beckymum thanks for the insight.
A few things to think about

Fosse bank is a lovely school. It is on the smaller side numbers wise for surrounding schools but that's the beauty of it. My son would not flourish as he has done in a school with vast numbers. It is a historic building with great outside space for forest school. The pta put on several events each year including Easter, Halloween and Christmas. They have just had a campover at the school which was so popular and amazing. A lot of families pitched up their tents and camped overnight and they had an amazing inflatable assault course that the kids loved. I honestly would recommend this school. The school did have some leavers recently but that is being addressed and it is not closing.
