Year 4 - how much communication from school

How much information (eg info on subjects to be covered that week or term, progress reports etc) do you get from the teacher?

We get a brief report at the end of term and a short sentence midway through the term. Along the lines of “X’s leadership skills are improving”. That’s it.

My son goes into school and comes out again, no homework. He is not communicative and I have literally no idea what he is studying or how he is getting on.

I would like to know if this is normal. TIA.

That's what we get now and dd is in Year 2. Except the mid term update. Termly report and twice a year parents evening - I've not had one of these face 2 face yet. Only other thing is a topic list by term on the website

Standard is a phone call home once a term (in place of parents evening) I've been getting more frequent ones since the teacher has some worries about DD. Thats it for progress. But can get multiple emails a day about book sales, Easter raffle, parking outside the school, wear a pink spotted top to save the bees etc...

We get two parent consultations per year, one in October and one in April/May. And then one end of year report in July. Homework is minimal - spelling test once a week and some online maths work. The topics and planning is available to view on the website. Plenty of general emails sent about general school life each week.

We get a weekly school newsletter with a few lines from each year teacher saying what the children have been studying that week.

My school (I teach) has a weekly class newsletter which covers what we've been up to (maths, English, science, and a few other bits), a weekly school newsletter and the termly topic web (which tells you what they will be learning). Homework varies but always includes spellings and times tables. Also, long term curriculum plans are available on the school website. Parents evenings twice per year then end of year report with optional parent meeting then. I catch parents at the end of the day for extra chats. One open evening per week where children are welcome to show their parents their books etc. I'm usually marking but it is meant to be independent with their child. We also have weekly certificates (every child will get at least one per term).

Sod all ! We have parents evening once a term - I’ve only said hi to the teacher but my daughter is one of the bright ones…. That’s at a girls independent school.

If I wanted a meeting I could but that’s it

Although they do nice instagram pics to show off what they have been doing in certain yr groups. Plus a weekly newsletter however nothing individually (I’ve got no idea what’s going on) I’m sure they would tell me if she had issues!
