I know one family who sent two of their daughters there. One of the little girls got kicked out at the age of 6 because she wasn't bright enough.

I have no personal experience of the school. I only have a son.

St albans High school - DC's are currently at private junior school but only takes them up to 11 not sure weather to send them private for a high school or opt for a grammer school/decent state school.
I would ideally like them to go to a mixed school but DH would prefer to keep them in private education.

Where are you based. There are some very good state schools in Hemel as well as the not so good ones.

By mixed schools do you mean coed?

I've heard good things about St Albans High (and went to a great GPDST school myself, FWIW). Dunno re Hemel as I don't live there.

lovelymoo · 04/01/2008 11:54

we are in st albans and they currently go to school in harpenden.
by mixed i ment both girls and boys.
i wanted to know if anyone else had sent their kids to a private primary and then opted for state secondary how they found it

There are some fanastic state secondary schools in St Albans/ Harependen. You would be mad to pay for private.

lovelymoo · 04/01/2008 21:15

but it be too much of a change as there are currenly eight my DD's class and only about 150 in the whole school.
I don't know much about secondary schools in the area been to see a few but they just look so big compared to what they are used to.
I guess i want something inbetween

Abbots Hill don't have a sixth form, and the girls there go to a different school again< I would look at St A's. HAve friends who have daughters who got to both schools, St A's very academic and quite pushy. HTH

alibubbles · 04/01/2008 21:39

My DD went to St Albans High School, sorry Deegward, it is not all all pushy, academic yes, but not in the same way as Habs. The pastoral care is superb. My DD was not pushed at all, she could have done a lot better, ie 10 A* instead of 6 and 4 A's, and 5 A's at A instead of only 4, but we were happy with that, she was never ever pushed to do more.

16 girls from Abbots Hill applied for the 6th form at SAHS , they have to get all A's at GCSAE and preferably A* in the subject they want to study for A level.I think they all got those sort of results at Abbots Hill, 6 came to SAHS, the others went to Haileybury, Marlborough etc

I have many friends with daughters at both, past and present, very happy with both.

( I actually look after the children of 6 SAHS teachers, and collect their daughters from the Junior school ( reception) in Wheathampstead)

Reallytired, I wonder if the person you refer to is the person I know, three daughters, two at SAHS and the kicked out one now at Egerton Rothesay via FH in London?

Both lovely schools.

I have friends who are sending their dd to abbots hill - i have heard nothing but good about the school, it has a lovely, non-pushy reputation
