Agree with you hmb.

MA will only work effectively if there are very small numbers of pupils, and teachers are given time and the necessary info to plan effectively for such classes. Planning for MA classes (at secondary level) can take a lot of organisation, resources and planning time. Most resources have to be done in at least 3 different ways - with varying degree of difficulty, etc. and with different approaches.

I am not saying the current system works either though. As hmb says, even 'setted' classes have issues. I know I have similar issues to hmb with some of my higher sets. However my lower ability class does work. I have 9 of them, all working around the same level - although one is much lower than the others. I plan for their class accordingly, and make the work challenging and engaging for them. And we are making progress. BUT - in this class the numbers are low and the LEA Advisor for my subject is following them too -s o we have 2 teachers in there.
