Is it a legal requiement to have a qualified teacher in the class with reception.
Iam asking because my dds class teacher was off sick for only 2 days and they were left with the two very competent class room assistants for these two days.
This doen't bother me at all but i have since heard that one mother complained that her child didn't have a proper teacher for these two days.

Is it a legal requiement??

louise1974...there was a thread about this a few months ago...the children were older but it covered the same theme though...I don't know the answer but am sure other mn's will be able to help you

I don't think it is. Ds1's reception intake was huge - they had two qualified teachers and two tesching assistants. The children would rotate in their groups and sometimes have a teacher and sometimes a TA - but often just have a TA in their classroom and no teacher.

not sure if it is 'legal' as such not to, but you are not supposed to leave a class with classroom assistants no matter hopw excellent....
