French pupil still looking for a boarding school for a term

Hello, I come to you for help again because all the schools I have contacted have rejected my demand... We're French, living in France, and as I did at his age a few times, my son would like to spend a summer term in an English boarding (co-ed if possible) secondary school to improve his English. He'll be 14 and is one year advanced in France. At first I looked around London, to be able to visit in case he felt homesick, but all the schools that were kindly recommended to me refused and one suggested to look further away.
I would very much appreciate if you could give me some names of private mixed (or not...) boarding secondary schools that you have heard positive things about. Thank you ! :)

I would add Bromsgrove to the list of schools to try. I am not aware of students who only go fro a term but they always seem really flexible, taking international DC for a year etc. They other advantage is that they don’t have exeats so need to fly back and forth or shuttle to a guardian for those weekends. They also offer boarding over half term now for international students.

Why not try Cheltenham College in Gloucestershire - lovely setting & co-ed. 2hr train ride to London...

Closer to London than it appears (journey time)-Denstone College, Uttoxeter

Christ's hospital might be open to this, in Horsham Sussex.

Dds are at a boarding school and this has never been a thing.

It's a reasonable distance from London but you might find that Pocklington School can help with what you're looking for.

Hi there, if you still are looking for some insights you are invited to get in touch with me - I am just in the process of finding boarding school options for my daughters for 1 term. For the one we already have a place, for the other one we are currently interviewing. Happy to share my experience with you :-) Kind regards, BavariaBlue

It is more normal to go to an IB school for two or three years age 16-18. Otherwise, you just need to contact schools and see if they have a space they don’t mind filling for one term. It is very short notice though so you might be looking at planning a year ahead.

Zombie thread. Urgh!

Dietcokeaddiction · 14/04/2022 22:51

Sorry not read the whole thread but I know of some schools who certainly have done this in the very recent past.
Rye St Anthony in Oxford is one (not sure if it's co-ed though) and also St Francis in Letchworth (again not sure if it's co-ed).
Mount House in North London is another which did when it was a girls' school. It's now co-ed and I assume it still does?

Please try St Edmunds school in Canterbury, they used to do boarding for one term only, at least until recently. My daughters friend went for one term 2 years ago. She loved it.
It is a lovely school, Co Ed, listed building, beautiful grounds. Do not waste your time with Kings Canterbury, they do not offer one term only boarding. Hope this helps
