School Textbooks

After a long absence it looks like my family and I may be moving back to the UK. I'd like to find a list of school textbooks, especially in the core subjects, for my children ages 9 and 12 as they may be arriving mid-year and meanwhile we're homeschooling but I could start them off at the right level.
Can anyone (teacher? parent?) tell me where I might find such a list. Ideally, Maths Textbook X that they can work on, English Textook X, etc.
TIA!

For primary, there isn't a list. We don't have textbooks as such, apart from maths where we use Busy Ant. But different schools will use different schemes or not at all. We certainly don't have text books for any other subject. You can look at the National curriculum to see WHAT needs to be covered but HOW it is covered is down to individual schools.

Ok thank you spanieleyes. In Ireland where we are there is a set list of textbooks (with some choices), I think it's a bit different in the UK. I have checked out the curriculum and found a site called Examninja which offers some textbooks which look quite good...Hopefully someone else might answer re secondary school for the 12 y old.

Can you get on the Oak National website? There may be useful content and it is lined up with National curriculum

I will check it out, thanks

Cgp do study/revision guides for each subject for the different key stages, 12yr old would be KS3, 9yr old KS2. Not text books but will cover all the topics they should have/will be covering. Most Secondaries don't have text books anymore, it's all online

CGP sell revision guides and textbooks on their site. Or you can see what is available at your local bookshop or look online etc in order to find some. Other good places to try include Facebook Marketplace and Amazon too.

text books went out of fashion when ofsted irrationally took against them, now they are coming back in, but there is no list - schools choose their own.

I would suggest using BBC bitesize

AngelinaDelight · 26/09/2021 16:53

It is very different as, over here, everything is textbook based. But I think the CGP ones look good and supplement with videos on Oak National or BBC...thanks...

No text books in my primary or my DC’s secondary below A level. Ofsted hated them and the dfe change the syllabus too often for them to be a worthwhile investment!

AngelinaDelight · 27/09/2021 18:40

What are they using instead then Redlocks28? I'm intrigued...

The schools decide the exam board and issue the best books to buy - plus they come with work books and answer sheets

iGCSE / Cambridge / welsh board etc

As far as maths and English goes they cover the same basics - but not all the same topics

Primaries around here use the Singapore Math text books which are aligned with the national curriculum so for math that might be a good starting point.

OK thanks
