Just trying to get some opinions :)

Avoid Twycross - horrendous experience there for us and wouldn't wish it upon any child. Dixie are completely different and a wonderful school from our experience with our child

Hi would you be able to provide more information on either Twycross or Dixies, we are just about to move our two daughters from a prep school in Leamington and would really welcome feedback on both and why you chose a particular school.

They are completely different cultures so it depends what you're looking for but from our experience I will say the below.

Twycross is old school, all about academics, is owned by a couple who are for want of a better word, horrendous, and as there's no board of governors, they just do what they want. No parent who sends their child there are enthralled with the school and a lot live on tender hooks worried if their child is going to be held back and made to repeat a year. They are not nurturing and do not put the children first. If a child doesn't fit into their narrow minded box then they are awful to them and also the parents, manipulating them. They have increased their class sizes also which defeats one of the reasons of paying for private school. They will talk the talk when they show you around but the reality is not like that. The kids live in fear of getting told off and I thank the day we took our child out.

Dixie is nurturing and very approachable in any situation. They do not write a child off if they have any learning difficulties and aim to help where possible. They don't focus solely on the academics but ensure children are all rounded and allow them to explore other hobbies and interests. The children learn to care for each other and treat each other with respect as that is how they are treated.

If I can save any child from going Twycross and living through that, whether it's to go to Dixie or somewhere else instead, then I will.

Sorry for delay - if its of any comfort. You have saved two more. I had picked up in those red flags and you have confirmed them for me. Thank you XxX

Much useful post. Thank you. Please can I ask what year is your child in? How was the assessment done? My year 1 child is lagging and is not up to the “standard” as per national curriculum. She even struggles with basic phonics alphabets numeracy. The current school has completely let her down despite of us repeating reception. She is a summer born and we have repeated reception twice in a private school, which have completely shattered her confidence. We are eager to change the school now. Please any inputs about assessment will be greatly appreciated. TIA

Dixie grammar please. Oh Twycross sounds quite ambitious for our kids. Specially my little one who has just begun to get more confident x

I would suggest you go and have a meeting with the school first. They will gladly show you around and discuss your concerns. They would then offer your child a couple of taster days to see how they get on.
We did the taster days and then never returned to our previous school.
They do small intervention groups with children that need more help and also those that need more of a challenge

My son was rejected from Twycross due to them not being able to meet his needs- he has Dysgraphia. Does anyone have any idea whether Dixie would be better placed to help? I don't want to send him back into year 3 in his current school as they have failed him repeatedly and been very unkind to him about his writing, despite knowing he has a diagnosed specific learning difficulty. I know I won't be able to get anything in place for September but I would love to know whether Dixie would be likely to take him on. They are obvs closed for summer so have said to call for a meeting when they're back on 2nd September.

That doesn't surprise me with Twycross. They push children to do handwriting way above their age and when Dixie saw the books that twycross had given them in reception they were shocked at the level of handwriting they made the children do and said it was no wonder my child's hand was hurting so much at school ...

I do not know anyone personally with dysgraphia at Dixie however I know they will definitely have a meeting and talk through things with you and go from there. They are really nurturing so I would like to think that they would be willing to help, if they have space in the year.

Would he be going into year 3 in September?
If so, the teachers of that year in September are the SenCos.

Please let me know how you get on.
