Cat in the classroom?!

My ds has asthma and I have noticed that he is a little wheezy since going back to school, after half term, his class teacher lets a cat in each morning for a drink of milk etc.., and they are allowed to stroke it, I do not think this is well known throughout the school, I do not want to upset his teacher (Idon't get on terribly well with her) and I don't want to spoil anything for the kids, would you tell? By the way I do not know for sure that the cat is causing the wheeze. Also its a private school at which the teacher has been there 30 yrs and everybody likes!!!

Don't go ballistic - read all of my post. Personally I think there are elements of this that are quite nice and that there is a certain quirkiness, a certain element of a teacher expressing her own personality, being creative in her teaching, that we are generally seeing eroded. It is something that for many children will create fond memories. Having said all that, however nice, quirky, creative, it is not acceptable that something is happening in the classroom that has a negative impact on your child's health. I would have thought there was room for compronmise here - that you ask that the cat be fed outside (on the window sill, or - even better - at the door, if the classroom has an outdoor one). That might mean that not every kid can stroke him/her every day - maybe they have to take turns, but that shouldn't be a big deal.

Along the same lines, our school - state primary - has a school cat (well I think it is, since all the kids know it and it's called Oscar) I don't think there is anything wrong with it personally, but from all your reactions obviously others do. Is it illegal?? I do understand allergies, but like I say it doesn't come inside (I don't think it does anyway), but the kids do stoke it.
