Nursery Trips Concern

Rules and regulations on nursery trips seem very vague and relaxed, certainly compared to schools. How can this be for the most vulnerable aged children? Is this another case of Early Years children and staff being forgotten?

Could you give an example? The Statutory guidance is largely the same for all settings, individual setting policies may vary of course.

I personally think that parent/carer permission for an off-site visit should be specific for each trip not a blanket agreement. I fear that off site visits are often because space and resources on-site are inadequate and overcrowded.

My son's nursery staff are far more qualified to look after him than I am!

Ours always notify us if they're planning a visit, does your nursery not?

So long as it's not raining, DS goes out twice a day at nursery. Why would I need or want to give permission every single time?!

It’s not vague at all
Not sure what you are referring to

We don’t take children out because there’s no room for them in the nursery
If you don’t like the way nursery do things then just take your children out and look after them yourself

Leftphalange · 23/06/2021 20:36

Have there been issues with your specific nursery?

I wouldn't support giving consent every time, my children's nursery has then out multiple times a week. This isn't due to inadequate resources onsite but because it is proven that outdoor learning and experiences are very beneficial to children's development

My kids love their off site visits and it’s a major bonus when they get out and about.

Are pre schoolers really the most vulnerable? In what way??

Seasidemumma77 · 23/06/2021 20:54

Regular trips out of nursery are such a valuable experience for the children. Not only do they get to engage with the community and environment in their local area, but they gain shared experiences with the other children which enriches every aspect of learning.
