tapping the MN well for its knowledge.

and does/should one be your passport details?

they are already asking/have my payroll no and NI number. shouldn't that be sufficient?

Think I had to provide passsport and driving licence aswell

dd666 · 19/11/2007 19:52

what it asks for and any added bits or they keep returning it not sure exactly whhat not done one for cpl years

inamuckingfuddle · 19/11/2007 19:53

photographic adn proof of address, so passport, driving licence - it tells you on the form notes

PandaG · 19/11/2007 19:56

payroll and NI no good - need to be things that can be copied to send off

there are 2 groups of acceptable things, if you have one of - orig birth cert, passport, driving licence

can then have 2 of the following-

then marriage cert, utility bill in your name and address from last 3 months, exam certificates

if you don't have one of the first group need 5 of the second - if you need more info I will look up some other egs

PandaG · 19/11/2007 19:57

you can submit all 3 from first group if you want to.

islandofsodor · 19/11/2007 20:00

One document has to be proof of your identity, so a passport or a driving licence. The other is proof of current address so something like a utility bill or bank statement.

kiskidee · 19/11/2007 20:15

i am asking 'cause this is not for a job which i am applying for and they don't know me. the LEA already has one from me so have obviously checked my identity before. it is because they screwed up and want my details again.

OP posts:
islandofsodor · 19/11/2007 20:27

Is it for a volunteer role. It doesn;t matter if the LEA has done one before. It is best practice for a new CRB to be done for every new job/voluntary activity. The LEA only need to check and record your details on a form, it is then sent off to the CRB. Documents have to be recent in the case of proof of address.

kiskidee · 20/11/2007 07:20

no it isn't for a voluntary post. i can't go into detail as it is confidential what the mistake at my workplace was. basically they have to get the crb's for everyone who is working there. i just hate having too many of my personal details out there in one place.

PandaG · 20/11/2007 07:59

there should be an accompanying form along with the crb check application form which tells you what forms of id are \cceptable, if the info we have given you is not enough

islandofsodor · 20/11/2007 09:57

Well at the end of the day it is not your workplace that set the rules as to what forms of ID are needed. The rules are set by the CRB and the CRB will return your form if their rules are not adhered to.

lljkk · 20/11/2007 12:55

Check what your umbrella body wants, the rules change often. I would try for 3 items in total: one high quality proof of ID (like driving license or passport). Plus at least one item showing current address (less than 3 months old, and ideally less than 1 month old). Plus at least one document that verifies identity and/or address (again, must also be very up to date for address).

I've taken things like DLA letters and correspondance from CRB or Ofsted itself as the 3rd item.

kiskidee · 20/11/2007 12:58

i know that iof. I was given a form to fill in which afaik was made up 'in house' with no accompanying info sheet from the crb people. had my workplace given me more back ground info, i would have complied w/out questioning the necessity of the request. I just wondered why the only asked for my pass port, no other piece of ID. It made it seem as it was the only document they wanted to use. as i know now from below, I think they should have told me what other option I had if i did not want to give my passport details.

i know it all sounds petty. i just feel very about the cumulative effect of having lots of bits of personal info given here and there.

From memory (it was last year!!)

Passport
Birth certificate
marriage certificate.

Have a look on their website - think there are some situations where you don't need all of those things - ie, your not married!

2sugars · 20/11/2007 13:01

you're.

kiskidee · 20/11/2007 13:32

it is incidences like this that makes me go

somersetmum · 20/11/2007 13:38

So would you rather have a paedophile working/volunteering with your children then? The checks are there for a reason

kiskidee · 20/11/2007 14:12

[saves breath] erm, have you read teh thread in its entirety somersetmum?

OP posts:
somersetmum · 20/11/2007 14:28

Yes, I've read the thread.

You think they ask for too much personal information for a CRB Check. You are worried that your personal details might get stolen.

The reason they ask for so much information is to try and ensure that its not fake. The original documents are not sent to the Bureau, they are copied by an administrator at the establishment. This person would not necessarily be able to spot a fake document and, if they only asked for one document, it would be easy for paedophiles to get fake ID and get past the system.

So, what I am saying is: would you be prepared to take the risk that this might happen if less documentation was required?

islandofsodor · 20/11/2007 14:39

It sounds like the home grown form is a documentary evidence sheet. This is used to keep a record of the documents shown, then the counter signatory signs to say they have seen them on the CRB form, records numbers and sends the form off so your original documents don?t have to go to the CRB. Possibly they asked for a passport as this is the simplest ID. If someone does not have a passport then a host of other documnets are required.

However, employers also by law have to verify the immigration status of all workers and should ask to see and record a copy of your passport for this purpose. For anyone that hasn?t got a passport (or other item from List 1 which is things like a residence permit) then they have to see two more items which for a UK citizen has to be a birth certificate and a document showing NI number.

kiskidee · 20/11/2007 14:51

thanks for you imput, somersetmum. however, i don't think that you are showing any evidence of lateral thinking. or crediting me with any intelligence. entirely my opinion and i hope you can respect that.

thanks IOF. I suppose i just wish that they had given me the original forms to fill out than to give me an inhouse proforma with no corresponding documentation.

OP posts:
islandofsodor · 20/11/2007 14:56

Well really for a CRB form you should have been given a copy of the Guide for Applicants. the form itself can be quite laborious to fill in, have you been given the actual form yet. I could understand you may not have been because when our staff fill them out we do it with them as mistakes are so common.
