CAT scores vs IQ (or FSIQ)

Hi
How do CAT scores relate to IQ? Are they fairly similar?
I've read that 89-111 are the average scores for the CATs and I know 90-110 is the average band for IQ so just wonder if there is a correlation.
I'm not sure our state school does CATs and my son has a spiky profile with one EP working out his FSIQ (high average) and others saying because of the discrepancies in his profile that it's not possible to come to an IQ number.

Not sure where his level is for applying to selective secondaries and hoping that a correlation between IQ and CATS will make it more obvious.

I'm not totally sure I follow.

Are you saying that you have an (FS)IQ estimate for your child but not the results of a CAT?

Overall I'd say they were fairly similar, albeit with certain important differences, e.g. the working memory component that you get with many IQ tests is basically non-existent in CAT.

CATs are designed to be cheaper & quicker to administer in large numbers.

I'd expect there to be quite a bit of correlation between IQ and CAT scores, but only this, 'quite a bit', I'd be very nervous about extrapolating a long way from an IQ test.

@puffyisgood Thankyou.
After a EP assessment my son has been given an (FS)IQ number although another practitioner has said that as there is a large discrepancy between some numbers that make up the FSIQ that it is not fully accurate. Our school doesn't do CATs as far as I know so we won't get that number.
I'm looking at which secondary schools for him to aim for that are approachable and have seen (on here) CAT score estimates of successful 11+ entrants for various selective indies. I was hoping to work out if the FSIQ and CATS were similar and use the indie entrant CATs number to work out which schools to not bother putting on our list.

At a guess, if the IQ test had been taken with no preparation, & if you were to strip out any general knowledge/memory/otherwise irrelevant sections [this may not be straightforward] and take an average of the rest you'd end up with something that'd be within maybe plus or minus 10% of the CAT score that'd be obtainable with no preparation. But that's hardly a very precise or robust approach. If you can afford private school fees then maybe a session or two with a private tutor might be affordable & give you an idea of the child's potential.
