Barnard Castle vs Durham Girl's

Looking for parental experience of both of these schools. Daughter is 9yr old, pretty intelligent (can be lazy) but most importantly is quite shy so we don't think she would cope well in a multi-form local comprehensive. We are pretty torn between the 2 at the moment so any parental feedback would be great.

They are miles apart, are you in the middle?
FWIW i went to Durham high for girls ( assume you mean that and not Durham school which now admits girls)
I loved it, have friends for life and those of my friends who stayed locally sent their girls there too who were equally happy.

Yes we are exactly in the middle but my husband works in Barnard Castle hence the dilemma. We have friends who have sent their children to both schools and were equally happy. Our daughter is in a state primary and this is our first foray into public schools so we are feeling a bit lost ha ha. I went to grammar school and I really miss having that option in the North East.

Appreciate this is an old thread but what did you decide to do/how do you find the school @twistyizzy

Decided on Barney and it has been fantastic so far, we definitely made the right decision. She has fitted straight in and the pastoral is amazing. So far it lives up to its promises and really is one big family. She is being stretched and pushed academically but also had opportunities to take advantage of all of the extra curricular stuff. I was really anxious about the transition from small village state primary to private secondary but in hindsight I shouldn't have worried.
