Coding/programming skills without a computer/tablet

Would love some recommendations for an 11yo. He’s been reading a book about scratch (which we’d tried a few years ago but he didn’t like it) and is keen to get going with it, he’s even writing out ideas in a notebook.

The problem is we won’t have a computer until September.

We might dig out the Robot Turtles game now he can see the coding idea behind it (he did enjoy it when little) but I’d love some recommendations. We love board and card games and those one player puzzle games where you have challenges to solve - but coding is not something I have the faintest idea about so not sure what is decent!

Phone apps would be good too.

Thank you!

There's a scratchJr app that you can get on mobile. My DC (a little older than yours) loves the computer version and it's a nice intro to coding.

Have you looked at lightbot or grasshopper on the phone?

Thank you! I have downloaded the lightbot code hour app (then got distracted playing it 😳😂) and will look at the others :)

I forgot to mention he does have a Turing Tumble as well, which he works through now and then (when little sister is at nursery as the parts are tiny), I think that’s helped him get his head around the ideas a bit

Have you seen Turing Tumble? It’s a physical game designed to code break/ set rules in the same way as coding. Just bought for my techy 10 year old.
