Ds started a playschool in September doing 2 x 2.5hr sessions. He is 3 in January, so I am guessing it will be free in January (I am paying at the moment).

Just wondered when will he stay longer at playschool, or will he? Also when would he start 'big' school?

Free the term after they turn 3 so unfortunately for you another term of fees. How long he stays will depend on the pre school. He will start school in the academic year he turns 5 but whether that is September or January will depend on the arrangements in your area.

Thanks. I guessed I would end up paying fees for January! Sods law!

Our pre-school will up the number of sessions depending on the child and the number of spaces available.

As far as I know they run 2 sessions a day, a morning one and an afternoon one (ds does mornings).
Not sure if he would have the option to do another morning each week, guess I would have to ask. Anyone know how many hours 'free' you can claim each week? (when he is 3)
I have overheard that the playschool is full and they aren't taking anymore children at the moment.
Is there an age to move him from playschool to 'Nursery class in school', or does it vary? Sorry for all the q's!

Where there is a separate nursery, children usually move up when they are rising four. But some nurseries take children a term or half term early if they have space. As far as I am aware you can have 5 free sessions a week the term after they 3.

Thanks for the tips. It can get confusing. I guess it depends on the area and which school.

I did wonder if he would move up to the infant school when he is around 4, the infant school is attached to the playschool.
